From the creative team behind this Spring’s production of Richard Dresser’s, “Below the Belt,” director Jon Dambacher is gearing up to bring you a modern classic from New York’s underground scene making its Chicago premiere: "Pounding Nails in the Floor with My Forehead" by Eric Bogosian, a three-time Obie Award winner, Drama Desk award, and Guggenheim fellowship recipient.
Starring Jeff Award winning actor Donterrio Johnson who explores twelve personalities, each bubbling and scratching at the seams of social unrest of the Baby-Boomers to the 80s punk and HipHop explosion of New York in this dirty, dangerous and dazzling one-man show.
Bogosian writes in the introduction to the 4th printing of the published Nails script, “The world isn’t ‘out there’ anymore; instead: “We are the world.” We float in a matrix of billions of image fragments, sound bites, plot-lines, news reports and ad copy. An endless stream of voices speaks to us — day in, day out, week in, week out.
Add to this the avalanche of attitude from every direction: comedians, talk shows, hit songs, interviews, speeches, reports, “specials” and on and on and on... The “world” is no longer real and inaccessible; instead it is a surreal dimension from which escape is impossible. Millions think together and dream together. Slowly but surely, millions go mad together.”
This two-night engagement will be held at The Pride Arts Center, 4139 N. Broadway, on October 16th and 30th.
